Budget like a Boss – Empowering your Expenses
Multicap Tasmania is proud to announce that it has been awarded a Healthy Focus Grant to support its innovative program, “Helping People with Disabilities Manage Their Cost of Living.”
Submitted in September 2024, the grant application outlined an initiative designed to assist people with disabilities in navigating the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The program will deliver practical strategies and tools to help individuals manage everyday expenses while also promoting sustainability, eco-friendly practices, and overall wellbeing.
Over the next 12-18 months, Multicap Tasmania will develop a series of videos and supporting materials addressing up to 16 key areas to empower individuals in their daily lives. The project will be titled “Budget like a Boss – Empowering your Expenses”
A Commitment to Supporting the Disability Community
Multicap Tasmania is a leading provider of disability services across the state, operating from sites in Circular Head, Wynyard, Burnie, Ulverstone, Devonport, Launceston, and Hobart.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Tasmania has the highest percentage of people with disabilities in the country, with over one-quarter (26.8%) of the population identifying as having a disability. In 2021, more than 38,000 Tasmanians reported needing assistance with daily activities due to disability. Many in this community rely primarily on government pensions, benefits, or allowances, placing them within lower socio-economic brackets and making them particularly vulnerable to cost-of-living pressures.
“Cost of living pressures are an additional burden on Tasmania’s most vulnerable residents, leading to stress, unhealthy lifestyle choices, and mental health concerns. Our project aims to offer practical solutions to help alleviate these challenges and promote healthier living,” said Samantha Sullivan, Business Development & Client Engagement Manager at Multicap Tasmania.
Government Recognition and Support
The Healthy Tasmania grants were recently announced by Roger Jaensch, Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing. The Minister emphasized the importance of these grants in reducing barriers to a healthy life and investing in communities to ensure the long-term wellbeing of Tasmanians.
“The grants are an investment in communities and part of the Tasmanian Government’s plan to keep Tasmanians healthy and well for longer,” Minister Jaensch said. “We know that effective action in preventive health reduces pressure on our healthcare system. These grants will support the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians through diverse initiatives promoting physical activity, sustainable and healthy eating, positive mental health, and community engagement.”
The Healthy Focus Grant will enable Multicap Tasmania to implement its cost-of-living support program, furthering its commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and fostering a healthier, more sustainable future for all Tasmanians.
